CLIENT BRIEF

Design a contemporary resindential home for an author and her family
Design a luxurious and relaxing retreat

Minimalism was the ultimate focus for this contemporary residential home design. Nestled into the hills of Byron Bay close to the infamous lighthouse this home is the ultimate beach retreat. Natural sunlight floods both levels of the home with soft reflections on the glass of the sea below. As this dwelling was intended for an author the inclusion of a library was imperative. Just off to the left of the kitchen is the ultimate reading hideaway. This versatile room has wall to wall bench seating that allows you to take time out in the morning to enjoy a coffee or to muster up new writing ideas. Whether you want to get lost in a good book or just immerse yourself in the sounds of the ocean it is the perfect sanctuary to do so.

I wanted the master suite to be in keeping with the rest of the house but with slightly softer timber flooring, not as harsh as the polished concrete on the lower level, more comfortable for a bedroom. Since the bedroom is in close proximity to the staircase I created a small hallway upon entering to provide that extra sense of privacy.

The bedroom is the one part of a house to escape and let your hair down. Once again boasting floor to ceiling glass windows, a luxury walk in wardrobe, dressing room and beautiful en suite with the bath overlooking Byron Bay. No better place to relax.

They say the kitchen is the heart of the house and when family is involved this saying is all too true. A space to relax with family to make memories without the judgement of the surrounding world. Neutral tones and soft timber help dwellers to feel calm and comfortable. A large island bench overlooks the ocean so you can watch the waves and prepare meals simultaneously.
